Angus x Akaushi Wagyu Beef

Akaushi is known as the “Emperor’s Breed” and considered a national treasure to the Japanese people. Akaushi beef is prized for its marble, intense flavor, good temperament, and desirable frame. Cross breeding a full blood Akaushi bull with Angus cows, we are able to mitigate health problems to prevent disease which increases vitality of the herd. This is a cleaner, healthier end product for you. We achieve more feed efficiency from the Angus side, and a good temperament is important for our safety as well as the cattle’s safety. Our natural breeding program means we let the bull out with the cows in August letting them take care of the business themselves.

Mangalitsa x Berkshire Heritage Pork

Our Berkshire sows are a well-known heritage pig. They are known for their marbled meat, fast growth, and exceptional bacon. They are good pasture pigs and can handle heat and cold quite well. “Boris” is a Mangalitsa bore. This breed, originally from Hungry, is a cross between a European wild boar and a Serbian breed. It was originally kept as a delicacy for the wealthy and is now a world-renowned choice for chefs. Its uniquely curly hair provides a layer of insulation in the winter months and does not need much shelter to withstand cold winter months in Alberta. Recent studies have concluded that Mangalitsa fat reduces cholesterol and reduces heart-related diseases due to the high content of Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. The lard makes for excellent baking and cooking! The pairing of the Mangalitsa and the Berkshire leaves a high-quality sought-after meat for all occasions and pallets.

Feeding and Care

Our cattle live outside year-round. They are free to roam and graze in our pastures during the summer months. In the winter they bale graze on the hay that we harvest during those summer months. They always have access to clean water, salt and minerals. Calving occurs in April and May which puts less stress on both mamma and baby.

Our pigs also live outside year-round. Extra care is taken during the farrow to ensure that both sow and litters are kept safe from the elements. All of our swine are fed a mixed grain/mineral ration to meet their protein requirements. They have constant access to fresh water.
